What should I do before I offer my home for sale?

If you’ve decided to sell your home, you don’t want to rush into things too quickly before you put it up for sale. First, you’ll want to make a few preparations to ensure your home is attractive and you can get the most money for it when you finalize the sale.

The following list of 10 things to do before you put your home up for sale is a great place to start:

— Get in touch with a home appraiser to do a walk through. The appraiser will have some suggestions about what can be done to increase the value of your home through small improvements and repairs. You may also want to talk with a real estate agent who can suggest other improvements.

— Keep your lawn well-manicured. Trim the hedges and cut the grass regularly. Also, water the lawn, plant flowers and make the yard as beautiful as possible. If it’s winter time, but your garden is extra-beautiful in the summer, put some pictures in an album so prospective buyers can see it.

— Fix any issues with exterior paint, especially if it’s peeling or flaking.

— Get the furnace and chimney checked and cleaned.

— How does your home look when you come in the front door? Be sure it’s free of clutter and looks organized and clean. Clean your entire house and every room. Getting rid of clutter will make your rooms feel bigger and brighter.

— Make little repairs that you’ve been avoiding. New electrical switch panels, interior paint touch-ups, fixing dripping faucets and updating the knobs on cabinets and door handles is always an excellent idea. Wash the windows until they sparkle. Resolve mildew issues in the bathroom and fix any grout that’s darkened.

— Get a professional cleaning service to maintain the cleanliness of your home at all times while it’s on the market.

Selling a home is a process, and when it’s done properly, you can reap the rewards of planning and organization. Texas residents who want to put their homes up for sale can also benefit from calling a real estate attorney to help them with the process.
